Our latest example of people sharing kindness with others comes from Ursuline Associate Janet Kuper, who has long been associated with St. Teresa Catholic School in Glennonville, Mo., where the Ursuline Sisters taught from 1930 to 2001. Janet teaches reading and math at St. Teresa through a government program. Her aunt is Sister Mary Celine Weidenbenner, and her husband’s aunt was the late Sister Mary Catherine Kuper. Here is her story for our Kindness Campaign.
“The students in our junior high at St. Teresa Catholic School are just wonderful! They are helping the younger students open their milk cartons, carry their trays, wash off the tables, and clean the floor. There are two students assigned over the week to help in the cafeteria. They come early and stay late to help in any way they can. Not easy when they sometimes don’t get to eat until after they have finished their service to the little ones.
“They are also assigned as Big Brothers and Sisters. In this program they sit with their little charges during prayer, at Mass, and other events. They focus their gifts at Christmas, Easter, and Valentines Day on these small children. As those of us know, it is sometimes not easy to work with young children, but these students really show patience in all their service. They are also very upbeat when greeted in the morning. I never have a student who doesn’t say “Good Morning” or “Did you have a good weekend?”
“Kindness and service are alive and well at St. Teresa Catholic School.”
