Hope and Firm Faith Book

Ursuline history book is now available for sale

“Hope and Firm Faith: The Story of the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph” is a book that brings to life the amazing women who have served God’s people from their humble beginnings at Maple Mount, Ky. Readers will learn how Saint Angela Merici founded the Order of Saint Ursula in Brescia, Italy, and following her death, convents spread across Europe. Eventually Ursulines found their way to North America, and in 1858, to Louisville, Ky. Just 16 years later, five brave Ursuline Sisters boarded a flatboat on the Ohio River to come to the wilderness of Daviess County and open Mount Saint Joseph Academy.

The community grew and eventually became independent in 1912 — the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph. Meet the women who have adventured through the changing times in American culture and the Catholic Church. You will learn about the events that unfolded for the Ursuline Sisters through the eyes of the women who lived them. This book is required reading for anyone who loves the Ursuline Sisters, as well as those who recognize the importance of the Sisters to the numerous communities and states in which they served.
