Sister Ann McGrew celebrating 60 years as an Ursuline Sister

Our 11th Sister celebrating a jubilee of religious life in 2025 is Sister Ann McGrew, a native of Clarkson, Ky., who is celebrating 60 years. She has served in a multitude of ministries – teacher, pastoral minister, retreat leader and in community leadership – but all rooted in helping others deepen their spirituality. Congratulations Sister Ann!
 
She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Brescia College in 1971. She has a master’s degree in elementary education and principal certification from Western Kentucky University. She has certifications in spiritual direction from the Hesychia School of Spiritual Direction at the Redemptorist Retreat Center in Tucson, Ariz., and the Institute of Religious Formation at Saint Louis University. She graduated from Loyola University-Chicago in 1993 with a master’s degree in religious studies.
 
All of her ministries have been in Kentucky. She was a teacher at St. Peter of Alcantara, Stanley (1968-69), St. Denis, Louisville (1969-75), teacher and principal at St. Brigid, Vine Grove (1975-84), part-time teacher at Owensboro Catholic High School (1985-86) and part-time librarian at Trinity High School, Whitesville (1986-87).
 
She served as pastoral associate in Murray at St. Leo Parish and director of the Newman House at Murray State University (1993-96), as pastoral associate at St. Stephen Cathedral, Owensboro (1996-2001), pastoral associate at St. Anthony Parish, Browns Valley (2001-2002), director of RCIA at St. Martin Parish, Owensboro (2005-2006), then parish minister at both St. Martin and St. Elizabeth Parish, Curdsville (2007-2010). She was director of religious education at St. Peter of Alcantara, Stanley (2017-19).
 
Sister Ann served multiple roles at Brescia University in Owensboro, including supervisor of the Women’s Discernment House (2001-2005), campus minister (2002-03) and coordinator of the spiritual component of the ministry formation program (2003-2005).
 
She has served her Ursuline community in various roles, including director of novices (1985-92, 2016-19), secretary to the Ursuline Leadership Council (1989-92), elected member of the Council (2004-2010, 2022-present), director of formation (2004-2007), director of the temporary professed (2004-2009, 2019-21), team member of the Spiritual Direction Training Program (2004-2018), program facilitator at the Mount Saint Joseph Conference and Retreat Center (2006-07) and director of the Retreat Center (2010-16). Since 2017 she has served as Motherhouse treasurer, and will serve as an elected Leadership Councilor until 2026.
