Ursuline Sisters Prepare Corn, Peaches and Peppers at Motherhouse August 2, 2016

Nothing brings the Ursuline Sisters together like the adage “many hands make light work.” On Aug. 2, 2016, sisters gathered in the small dining room at Maple Mount to peel, cut and otherwise prepare corn from the Mount farm and delicious peaches and peppers from Reid’s Orchard. The sisters always use these opportunities to share stories and laughs as they work. Here are some photos from the morning.

Even “corny” jokes make the sisters and kitchen staff laugh, as is evident in this photo as sweet corn from the farm is processed. Around the table starting at right is Ursuline Sister Mary McDermott, Sister Huyen Vu, (a Sister of the Lovers of the Holy Cross who is staying at the Mount), Sister Jacinta Powers, Melody Payne (food service manager), Sister Marie Bosco Wathen, Mary Lykins (food service employee) and Sister Susanne Bauer.

Who knew cutting up peaches could be so fun? Just ask Sister Marcella Schrant, left, Sister Marietta Wethington, center, and Sister Mary Sheila Higdon.
Sister Amelia Stenger sprinkles some Fruit Fresh over recently sliced peaches to keep them from turning brown. The peaches were bagged and frozen for later use.
The cleanest peaches north of Georgia were the result of this ace team of Sister Monica Seaton, left, and Sister Jacinta Powers.
