Sister Rose Theresa Johnson, OSU

Sister Rose Theresa Johnson, 81, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Aug. 10 at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 64th year of religious life. She was a native of St. Lawrence.

She was born Lucy Mae Johnson to the late Damien David and Catherine Morris Johnson. She was a wonderful primary grades teacher for 38 years in schools throughout Kentucky, a gentle, prayerful woman who enjoyed teaching her students to act out the parables.

She taught at St. Denis School, Fancy Farm (1950-52), St. Benedict, Wax (1952-56), St. Elizabeth, Curdsville (1956-58, 1965-72), St. Joseph, Central City (1958-61), St. Paul, Louisville (1961-62), St. Joseph, Mayfield (1962-64), St. Leonard, Louisville (1964-65), Blessed Mother (1972-77) and Precious Blood (1982-83) in Owensboro, Mary Carrico, Knottsville (1977-81), St. Mary Magdalene, Sorgho (1983-85) and St. Paul, Leitchfield (1985-89).

She served as parish minister in St. William Parish, Marion, and St. Mark Parish, Eddyville (both 1989-95), and as an outreach minister in Caneyville and the surrounding area (1995-99). From 1999-2012, she ministered as a pastoral associate at St. Joseph Catholic Center, Greenville.

Survivors include four sisters, Mary Howell, Owensboro, Alma Victoria Higdon, Clarkson, Mary Eveyleen Melton, Cedar Hill, Tenn., and Sister Rose Karen Johnson, OSU, Greenville; and one brother, Frank Johnson, Evansville, Ind.; nieces and nephews, and the members of her religious community.

The funeral Mass took place Monday, Aug. 13, 2012 at Mount Saint Joseph.

Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, Owensboro, was in charge of arrangements.
