The next Sister we honor for a jubilee of religious profession is Sister Rita Scott, a native of Louisville, Ky., who is celebrating 60 years as an Ursuline Sister.

Sister Rita has a gift as an unflappable “can-do” person, overseeing projects and the daily operation of the Motherhouse campus with a steady hand for the past 25 years.

She graduated from Brescia College in 1970 with a degree in elementary education and earned a master’s degree in education from St. Louis University in 1980.

She was an educator for 20 years, from 1970-1990, serving as a teacher at St. Brigid School, Vine Grove, Ky., (1970-71), St. Paul School, Leitchfield, Ky., (1971-73), Mother of Good Counsel School, Louisville (1973-74), and St. Joseph School, Bowling Green, Ky., (1984-85). She was principal and teacher at St. Teresa School, Glennonville, Mo., (1974-82), and St. Andrew School, Harrodsburg, Ky., (1982-84). She was principal at Blessed Mother School/St. Angela Merici School, Owensboro (1985-90).

While ministering in Missouri and Harrodsburg in education, she assisted in administering the parish until a priest was assigned. She served as boys basketball coach in Missouri, girls volleyball coach in Louisville, and as a substitute bus driver at a number of schools.

Sister Rita served as associate business administrator for the Ursuline Sisters from 1990-2001, and since 2001 has been plant administrator at the Motherhouse. From 2010-16, she served as an elected councilor on the Ursuline Leadership Council.
