Sister Mary Durr: April 25, 1918-April 21, 2017

Maple Mount — Sister Mary Durr, 98, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died April 21, 2017, at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 80th year of religious life. She was the oldest sister in the community.

Born on a farm that adjoined the church property in Paul, Neb., Sister Mary valued hard work and always had a song in her heart. She was an educator for 34 years, most of them as a music teacher.

She taught music at St. Michael Convent, Fairfield, Ky., (1939-40), St. Angela Home, Louisville (1940-52), Sacred Heart Academy, Waterflow, N.M., (1952-55 and 1956-63), Lourdes Central High School, Nebraska City, Neb., (1963-68) and at Mount Saint Joseph Academy, Maple Mount (1968-73). She was principal and teacher at St. Alphonsus School, St. Joseph, Ky., (1955-56). From 1973-99, she served as liturgy consultant and audiovisual librarian for the Diocese of Lincoln, Neb.

Survivors include two sisters, Sister Catherine Durr, CSJ, Kirkwood, Mo., and Aurelia Ann Inkret, Denver; nieces and nephews, and the members of her religious community.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 25 – her 99th birthday – at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Monday at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m.

Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, Owensboro, is handling arrangements.
