Sister Marie Michael Hayden, OSU: September 17, 1932- June 13, 2018

Maple Mount — Sister Marie Michael Hayden, 85, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died June 13, 2018, at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 63rd year of religious life. She was a native of Owensboro, Ky.

   Sister Marie Michael loved to share the joy of Mass and her Catholic faith with all those she met. She was happiest when working side by side with people in her parish.

     She taught at St. Columba School, Louisville (1957-59) and St. Catherine School, New Haven, Ky. (1959-64). Beginning in 1964, she was engaged in religious education and parish ministries. She was assistant director of religious education for the Diocese of Lincoln, Neb. (1964-79). She served as director of religious education for the Diocese of Owensboro (1979-87). She was the director of religious education and parish minister for St. Francis de Sales Parish, Lebanon, Mo. (1987-96) and for Sacred Heart Parish, Russellville, Ky. (1996-99).


     Sister Marie Michael ministered to her brother, Father Lucian Hayden, at the Carmel Home, Owensboro, from 1999-2001. Her final full-time ministry was serving as the director of religious education and pastoral associate for St. John the Baptist Parish, Fordsville, Ky., from 2002-2014. She spent her final years at the Motherhouse being active in the Powerhouse of Prayer.

Survivors include her siblings John Paschal Hayden, Huber Heights, Ohio; the Rev. Michael Hayden, San Pedro, Calif.; Dr. David Lee Hayden, White Plains, Md.; Rose Marie Cassidy, Eugene, Ore., and Rachel Hayden, Owensboro; nieces and nephews and the members of her religious community.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Sunday at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m.

Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, Owensboro, is handling arrangements.
