Sister Luisa Bickett celebrates 75 years as an Ursuline Sister

We are blessed to have three Sisters celebrating 75 years of religious life in 2023. Today we honor the first of those, Sister Louis Marie “Luisa” Bickett.

A native of Roseville, Ky., Sister Luisa’s family moved to Daviess County when she was 5. Sister Luisa has a heart of a missionary and to serve the poor. This led her to minister in South America, New Mexico and to the Hispanic community in nearby Ohio County. She graduated from the College of St. Joseph in Albuquerque, N.M., in 1961 with a degree in education.

She was an educator for 24 years. She was a teacher at Sacred Heart School in Farmington, N.M., (1950-61), St. Edward School in Jeffersontown, Ky., (1961-62), Colegio San Ignacio in Santiago, Chile (1965-71) and Colegio Padre Hurtado in Chillán, Chile (1972-74). She was principal and teacher at St. Joseph School, San Fidel, N.M. (1962-63), Sacred Heart School in Farmington, N.M. (1963-65) and St. Elizabeth School, Curdsville, Ky. (1965).

She was a pastoral minister at Poblacion Vicente Perez Rosales in Chillán, Chile (1975-83). She served in pastoral outreach at Holy Redeemer Church in Beaver Dam, Ky. (1984-87), and in outreach to mostly Hispanic populations in the Horse Branch, Ky., area (1987-2013). From 2013-19 she was a quilter for the Ursuline Sisters Quilt Club. She is retired at the Motherhouse and is active in the Powerhouse of Prayer.

Congratulations Sister Luisa!

Jubilee congratulations may be sent to 8001 Cummings Road, Maple Mount, KY 42356.
