It’s that special time of the year when we celebrate our Ursuline Sisters who are celebrating jubilees of religious profession. Our first honoree for 2026 is Sister George Mary Hagan, a native of New Haven, Ky., who is celebrating 70 years!
Sister George Mary is from the “Kentucky Holy Land,” and has a great love for history, especially her connection with the pioneer Catholics who came from Maryland to Kentucky. She is a wonderful example of Ursuline hospitality – if she doesn’t know you yet, she will soon.
She is a 1966 graduate of Brescia College in Owensboro with a degree in English. She is a 1972 graduate of Western Kentucky University with a master’s degree in education.
Sister George Mary was a teacher in Kentucky for 26 years, at St. Peter of Alcantara School, Stanley (1958-59), St. Peter of Antioch School, Waverly (1959-61), St. Sebastian School, Calhoun (1961-62), St. Andrew School, Harrodsburg (1962-64), St. Martin School, Rome (1964-69), St. Anthony School, Axtel (1970), and Blessed Mother School, Owensboro (1970-84).
She was director of religious education for the Office of Chaplains at Fort Knox (1984-2003), serving both Catholic and Protestant families. She was program assistant volunteer at the Mount Saint Joseph Conference and Retreat Center (2004-05), then director of religious education at St. Alphonsus Parish, St. Joseph, Ky. (2005-2009). She offered transportation to the Sisters from 2004-2019. She is retired at the Motherhouse and active in the Powerhouse of Prayer.
Congratulations Sister George Mary!
