Sister Charles Irene Hayden

MAPLE MOUNT, Ky. – Sister Charles Irene Hayden, 91, of Maple Mount died October 22, 2003, in her 62nd year as an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph.

She was born Julia Irene Hayden in Browns Valley, the daughter of Charles Simeon and Lucy Delphine Hayden. An education for 51 years, she taught at St. Mary Magdalene, Sorgho (1946) and Blessed Mother, Owensboro, where she was teacher(1956-62) and principal (1960-66). She served as music teacher, classroom teacher, principal and outreach minister in the Archdiocese of Louisville, in Nebraska, Indiana and New Mexico. From 1984-94, she was a reading tutor and outreach minister in Louisville.

She was local community treasurer at Mount Saint Joseph from 91 until her retirement in 2000.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews and the members of her religious community. The funeral Mass was October 24 at Mount Saint Joseph, with burial in the convent cemetery. Glenn Funeral Home, Owensboro, was in charge of arrangements.
