The next jubilarian Sister we honor is Sister Barbara Jean Head, who is celebrating 60 years of religious profession. Sister Barbara Jean is a native of New Haven, Ky., who mixes being a “numbers person” with concern for the poor and for young people. Congratulations Sister Barbara Jean!
She earned a bachelor’s degree in math from Brescia College in 1969, and a master’s degree in education from Western Kentucky University in 1977. She earned a master’s degree in business administration for not-for-profits from the University of Notre Dame in 1992.
All of her ministries have been in Kentucky. She was a teacher at Precious Blood School, Owensboro (1969-73) and St. Mary Magdalene School, Sorgho (1982-83). She was principal and teacher at St. Andrew School, Harrodsburg (1973-82) and a math teacher at Owensboro Catholic High School (1983-89).
She was treasurer and business administrator for the Ursuline Sisters (1989-2004) and was elected to serve on the Ursuline leadership Council (2004-2010). Since 2005 she has served as senior accountant at Brescia University in Owensboro, Ky.
