The next Sister we are honoring for her jubilee of religious profession is Sister Angela Marie Fitzpatrick, a native of Emporia, Kan., who is celebrating 60 years.

Sister Angela has long had a love for serving the needs of the people in parishes, especially the elderly. She has a strong sense of compassion and social justice.

She was an Ursuline Sister of Paola, Kan., prior to that community’s merger with Mount Saint Joseph in 2008. She graduated from Avila College in 1971 with a degree in religious/elementary education. She earned a master’s degree in parish ministry from Loyola University, Chicago, in 1979.

She was a teacher at St. James School, Bartlesville, Okla. (1969-70) and Queen of the Holy Rosary School, Overland Park, Kan. (1970-71).

She was the first Sister in her community to leave the classroom and serve as a pastoral minister. She served in parish ministry for 29 years, beginning as a pastoral associate at Holy Trinity Parish, Kansas City, Mo. (1971-72), and then in pastoral team ministry with Northeast Cooperative Services, Kansas City, Mo. (1972-75). While there, Sister Angela began Dial-A-Ride, a transportation service for the elderly. She also traveled to Washington, D.C., to become a founding member of Network, a Catholic social justice lobbying group.

Sister Angela became pastoral associate at Blessed Sacrament Parish, Kansas City, Kan., (1975-78), then later served as pastoral associate at St. Columba Parish, Conception Junction, Mo., (1979-85), Sacred Heart and St. Casimir parishes, Leavenworth, Kan., (1985-86), St. Gabriel Parish, Kansas City, Mo., (1986-96) and at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, Gladstone, Mo. (1997-2000).

She was administrative assistant at Bishop Ward High School, Kansas City, Kan. (2001-2006). She took clinical pastoral education classes at St. Joseph Hospital (2006-07) and became chaplain/bereavement coordinator for Hospice Care of Kansas/Midwest, Lenexa, Kan. (2008-10). She served as a CSJ caregiver in metropolitan Kansas City (2006-07, 2010-26). She moved from Kansas City to Maple Mount in January 2026 and is helping where needed, including serving as sacristan for the community.
