Several windows broken at the Mount during hailstorm

Maple Mount suffered its share of damage when a major hailstorm struck Daviess County, Ky., in the early hours of Saturday, March 15, 2025.

No one was injured, but like much of the county and surrounding areas, windows were shattered, cars were dented, and window screens were destroyed.

Some of the worst damage at the Mount occurred to the greenhouse, which has been behind the farm shop since the early 2000s. Several window panels were knocked out, leaving the spinach plants that were growing there interspersed with glass.

Starter plants of cabbage and kohlrabi were salvaged and sitting outside on March 17.

“I was going to start tomato plants next week, but that’s not going to happen now,” said Mike Stelmach, who maintains the extensive garden for the Sisters.

St. Angela Hall – which opened in 1914 – had several windows broken. Lourdes Hall received some cracks in its windows. Some of the security cameras on campus were also damaged during the storm.

This is typical of many of the Sisters’ cars after they were dented by hail. Some Sisters living in Owensboro had more extensive damage to their cars.
