Sister Mary Henry Russell

Sister Mary Henry Russell, 86, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph of Maple Mount, Ky., died January 3, 2003, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was in her 65th year of religious life. She entered the community September 7, 1936, and received the habit August 14, 1937. She made temporary vows on August 15, 1939, and perpetual vows on August 15, 1942.

Sister Mary Henry, baptized Sarah Frances, was the daughter of Frank William and Mary Joseph Blandford Russell of Louisville. An educator for more than 60 years, she ministered at St. Benedict School, Wax (1955-56), St. Anthony School, Peonia (1972-75), and Christ the King School, Madisonville (1992-2002). She also taught in schools in the Archdiocese of Louisville, and in Nebraska and New Mexico. She retired at the Motherhouse in 2002.

Survivors include four sisters, Sister Joseph Adrian, OSU, of Mount Saint Joseph, Isabel Clark and Martha Riedling, both of Louisville, and Ursula Schutz of New Albany, Ind. She is also survived by the members of her religious community.

Services were on Monday, January 6, at Mount Saint Joseph Chapel, Maple Mount, Ky., with burial in the convent cemetery at Maple Mount.  Glenn Funeral Home, Owensboro, was in charge of arrangements.
