Sister Mary Timothy Bland celebrates 60 years as an Ursuline

Among the eight Ursuline Sisters celebrating jubilees of religious life in 2024, six of them were classmates 60 years ago. Today we honor the first of those, Sister Mary Timothy Bland!

Sister Mary Timothy, a native of Greenbrier, Ky., in Marion County, has a passion for teaching. She served as an elementary school teacher for 52 years, almost all of that time leading first- or second-graders and preparing them for the sacraments. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Brescia College (now University) in 1969, and a master’s degree in elementary education from Western Kentucky University in 1977.

Sister Mary Timothy taught at St. Teresa School, Glennonville, Mo., (1967-70), St. Christopher School, Radcliff, Ky., (1970-75), St. Angela Merici School, Florissant, Mo., (1975-79), St. Joseph School, Bowling Green, Ky., (1979-86) and from 1986-2016 at what is now the Owensboro (Ky.) Catholic K-3 Campus, previously Blessed Mother School and St. Angela Merici School. She was a substitute teacher there from 2016-19. She was co-coordinator of Hurricane Hills recreation site for the Sisters from 1996-2016. Since 2019, she has served as assistant to the archivist at the Motherhouse.
