Mary Carrico Memorial Catholic School Students Return to the Mount Feb. 2, 2017

Catholic Schools Week brought a visit to Maple Mount from the students at Mary Carrico Memorial Catholic School in Knottsville on Feb. 2, 2017.

Ursuline Sister Mary Celine Weidenbenner brings the 5th through 8th graders each year to show off their square dancing skills for the sisters in Saint Joseph Villa. As an added treat this year, the kindergarten through 4th grade students sang a few songs for the sisters.

Many years ago, Sister Mary Celine received a stack of 78 rpm square dancing records from the late Ursuline Sister Ruth Helen Flaherty, who died in 1989.

“She said, ‘I know you’ll make good use of these.’ That was the mandate,” Sister Mary Celine said. She’s been teaching her students to square dance ever since.

Here are some photos from the visit.
