Brescia Freshmen

On Aug. 17, 2015, about 150 incoming freshmen at Brescia University in Owensboro came to Maple Mount to learn how the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph are intertwined with Brescia since starting the college in 1950. The students then broke into small teams and went on a scavenger hunt around the grounds. Classes begin at Brescia on Aug. 19. Here are some pictures from the day.

    My dear freshmen:
Just wanted you to know how fortunate each of you are to be at Brescia…I was taught by the Ursulines starting in 1949 through 1957 at Sts. Joseph and Paul Parish on 4th Street…I remember Brescia opening in 1950 and loved the library…my 2nd grade teacher, Sister George Ann was one of the Presidents of the College…Fr. Alvey was a dear friend of the Monarch Family and my great aunt was Sister Mary Florence Monarch buried in the cemetery at the Mount…My first cousin is Sister Jacinta Powers, living in Tenn., so as you can see this 72 year old religious brother has a lot of memories of Brescia, the Mount—may each of you be blessed abundantly as your lives unfold with the best of the best…Brother Gabriel Monarch, O.H.
