The Academy of Young Leaders, 82 students from four high schools in Daviess County, Ky., came to the Mount Saint Joseph Conference and Retreat Center on Nov. 3-4 to support each other as leaders in their schools.
Sophomores, juniors and seniors sign up in September, and the retreat at the Center is their first activity of the year. They eventually break down into six groups and do service projects in the community until spring break, said Langley Wetzel, program coordinator.
“They sign a contract to not use drugs and alcohol,” Wetzel said. “It’s about making good decisions, being role models. This allows them to have a support group.”
One of the projects the young leaders will do is a presentation on drugs and alcohol to middle school students.
Here are some pictures from Nov. 3. All their meetings occurred in the Mount gymnasium.
