29th Annual Rainbow Mass

Several Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph took part in the 29th Rainbow Mass on Sept. 26 at the Owensboro Sportscenter, which brings together students from all 17 Catholic schools in the Diocese of Owensboro.

The Most Rev. William Medley, bishop of Owensboro, presided at Mass and estimated there were about 2,500 people in attendance.

“We can certainly raise a joyful noise to the Lord,” Medley said. “The rainbow is a sign of hope. This rainbow will not end.”

Jim Mattingly, superintendent of the Catholic Schools, asked the women religious present to stand to be honored. Bishop Medley said during his homily that the sisters are “noble and generous women who have given their lives to the Catholic Church.” He also credited them with getting most of the Catholic Schools started in the Diocese of Owensboro.

“I think there is another generation of sisters among this group,” Medley said.

Here are some photos from the day.
