Sister Mary Rosaria Ray, 88, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Saturday, August 21, at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 68th year of religious life. She was a native of Payneville in Meade County.
An educator for more than 45 years, she taught at St. Alphonsus School, St. Joseph (1944, 1957-58), and St. Peter School, Stanley (1947-51). She was principal at Sts. Joseph and Paul (1968-78) and Immaculate (1978-81) schools in Owensboro and at Mary Carrico School, Knottsville (1981-91). She also served in parish ministry in Sunfish and worked in crafts and mail distribution at Mount Saint Joseph. She took a deep interest in all of her religious community’s activities.
Survivors include two sisters, Anna O’Bryan of Ekron and Mary Patricia Ray of Brandenburg; one brother, Joseph Patrick Ray of Guston; nieces and nephews, and the members of her religious community.
