Sister Raymond Dieckman

Sister Mary Raymond Dieckman, 84, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died October 27, 2016, at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 66th year of religious life. She was a native of Kansas City, Kan.

Sister Raymond was an Ursuline Sister of Paola, Kan., until the merger of that community with Mount Saint Joseph in 2008. She was nicknamed “Mighty Mouse” for her small stature but huge impact on all those to whom she ministered.

She was a teacher in Kansas at East Scipio School in Scipio (1952-55), St. Philip Neri School in Osawatomie (1955-56), Queen of the Holy Rosary in Overland Park (1958-59), and a Latin teacher at Ursuline Academy (1968-69). She was principal at St. Agnes School (1959-61) and assistant principal at Bishop Miege High School (1961-66), both in Shawnee Mission, principal at Holy Trinity School in Paola, and principal/teacher at Holy Name School, Kansas City, Kan. She also taught at St. John School in Bartlesville, Okla., from 1956-58. She was principal of Ursuline Academy, Paola (1969-71) and served in development with the Lakemary Center.

She served 22 years in Ursuline leadership, including eight years as superior (1974-82). She was the community bookkeeper from 1990-2005, receptionist from 2007-2009, and was a Hospice chaplain volunteer at Olathe Medical Center (1994-2007). She moved to Maple Mount in 2009.

Survivors include her sister, Betty DuPont of Paola, Kan., nieces and nephews and the members of her religious community.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 31, at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Sunday, October 30 after 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m.
