Sister Karla Marie Kaelin celebrates 60 years as an Ursuline

The next of our Ursuline Sisters who is celebrating 60 years of religious life in 2024 is Sister Karla Marie Kaelin!

Sister Karla, a native of Louisville, is known for her joyfulness and generosity during her years as a teacher and a parish minister. She earned an elementary education degree from Brescia College in 1968, a master’s degree in elementary education from Western Kentucky University in 1976, and a master’s in religious education from Boston College in 1993.

 

Sister Karla taught in Kentucky at St. Catherine School, New Haven (1968-72), St. Peter School, Stanley (1972-76), St. Alphonsus School, St. Joseph (1983-84), St. James School, Louisville (1984-89) and St. Matthias School, Louisville (1989-91). She also taught at Seven Holy Founders School, Affton, Mo. (1976-83). She was director of postulants and novices at the Ursuline Motherhouse (1992-94), then pursued parish ministry.

 

She served in Kentucky as pastoral associate at Immaculate Conception Parish, Hawesville, and St. Columba Parish, Lewisport (1994-2000) and at St. Mary of the Woods Parish, Whitesville (2000-02), where she returned from 2008-13 as director of religious education. She was pastoral associate at St. Joseph Parish, Mayfield, and served in outreach in Benton (2003-2008). From 2013-22, she was director of religious education at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Louisville.  She is retired at the Motherhouse, where she is active in the Powerhouse of Prayer.
