Ursuline Sister Cheryl Clemons’ upcoming half-day, online retreat will focus on our own role in “Giving Birth to God in 2025.”
“We’ve just finished celebrating the Advent and Christmas seasons during which we recalled the historical enfleshment of God into our world,” Sister Cheryl said. “The full Christian gospel, however, is that the Incarnation is not a ‘one-and-done’ event but the manifestation of God’s ongoing purpose in human history. Like Mary of Nazareth, each of us is called and empowered to bring God to birth in the world today. Each of us is invited and graced to give birth to Jesus Christ in our daily lives.”
Tapping into the wisdom of Caryll Houselander, Ron Rolheiser, Richard Rohr, and others, Sister Cheryl suggests that we bring Jesus to birth in 2025 through the same four-fold process that Mary experienced:
- Impregnation by the Holy Spirit
- Gestation of God within one’s body
- The agony of giving birth
- Nurturing an infant into adulthood
On Saturday, January 18th from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., (CST), you are invited to participate in this online program (via Zoom) as we reflect on how each of us can give birth to God through our lives this year. Through the joint offering of the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph and the West Virginia Institute for Spirituality, this program is offered for a recommended $50 fee.
Sister Cheryl holds a doctorate in historical theology-systematics, with minors in women’s theology and medieval church history, from The Catholic University of America. She has been providing retreats for more than 30 years.
