Sister Bertha Marie Nally, OSU

Sister Bertha Marie Nally, OSUSister Bertha Marie Nally, 85, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 64th year of religious life. She was a native of Springfield, Ky., the daughter of the late Joseph Warren Nally and Bertha Mary Hite Nally.

An educator for 35 years, she taught in the Diocese of Owensboro at St. Benedict School, Wax, St. Anthony School, Browns Valley, St. Peter of Antioch School, Waverly, St. Martin School, Rome, St. Elizabeth School, Curdsville, St. Raphael School, Daviess County, and St. Paul School, Leitchfield.

In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she was a teacher at St. Joseph School (“Little Saint Joe”), Raywick, St. Catherine School, New Haven, St. Bartholomew School, Buechel, Holy Cross School, Holy Cross, St. Bernard School, Clementsville, and St. Charles School, Lebanon.

Father Charles Thompson, a friend and former pupil of Sister Bertha Marie, was celebrant at the Mass of Resurrection on October 10. In his homily, he described her as “a formidable woman” and “a person of great conviction.”

Survivors include nieces and nephews, and the members of her religious community.
