Sharing kindness: Memories of a snowy lot still bring joyful tears

Our latest Kindness Campaign example comes from Jan Mills Gish, of Mayfield, Ky. Jan is the niece of Sister Michael Ann Monaghan, and a 1965 graduate of Mount Saint Joseph Academy.

“This is not a recent happening, but it’s one that has remained with me for years. My dad died suddenly, in the dead of winter. My parents lived on the church grounds at St. Augustine in Reed, Ky. The weather was awful; extremely cold, with a lot of snow on the church grounds. We were concerned about how people would be able to get in the drive and parking lot for the funeral that day. I had spent the night at my parents’ house and I woke up very early to loud noises from outside. I looked out the window and saw that many men in the parish and community had brought their tractors and equipment and were cleaning the drive and parking lot. That act of kindness and thoughtfulness brought me to tears and I’ll always remember it.”

We can all use a reminder of how many kind people there are in the world. If you have a story of kindness to share, please tell us about it.
