Owensboro Catholic Students enjoy Day of Prayer at the Mount

Mass at the Center

Sixth-grade students from the Owensboro Catholic Elementary 4-6 Campus in Owensboro visited Mount Saint Joseph for a “Day of Prayer” on May 8, 2012. They started their day with Mass in the Mount Saint Joseph and Retreat Center Conference Room.

Next, they grabbed a snack as they stepped outside and were divided into four groups. Each group attended a different activity and then continued until they had completed all four events.

One was a scavenger hunt along All Saints Avenue where the students were asked to find each shrine and write down something that was etched on the shrine.

Rosary Walk

A “trust walk” took place which involved half the students wearing blindfolds and being led by other students.

Sister Martha Keller, director of vocations ministry for the Ursuline Sisters, led each group along the Rosary Walk where they prayed part of the Rosary as they walked.

The fourth activity was a talk by Sister Pam Mueller, director of campus ministry for Brescia University, Owensboro. Sister Pam’s talk focused on the FROG theme on the students’ T-shirts: Fully Rely on God. She asked them about obstacles that might make it harder for them to follow this advice.

The students finished up their visit by enjoying grilled hamburgers and hot dogs at the park across the street.
