Sister Rose Marian Powers, OSU, February 6, 1933- November 27, 2017

Maple MountSister Rose Marian Powers, 84, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Nov. 27, 2017, at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 65th year of religious life. She was a native of Cloverport, Ky.

Sister Rose Marian always wanted to bring people closer to God. She had a ready smile for all those she met, was devoted to her family and always put the needs of others ahead of her own.

All her ministries were in Kentucky. She taught at St. Martin School, Rome (1954-57), St. Francis Xavier, Raywick (1957-58), St. Raphael School, West Louisville (1958-62), St. Edward School, Jeffersontown (1962-65), Flaherty Public School (1965-67), St. Paul School, Leitchfield (1973-75), St. Bernard School, Louisville (1975-79) and at St. Mary Magdalene School, Sorgho (1985-87). She was teacher and principal at St. Brigid School, Vine Grove (1967-73) and St. Joseph School, Mayfield (1979-85).

She was pastoral minister at St. Mary of the Woods, McQuady, and St. Rose of Lima, Cloverport (1987-91), at St. Anthony Parish, Axtel (1991-94) and at St. Rose of Lima and Holy Guardian Angels, Irvington (1999-2003). She served as local coordinator at the Motherhouse in Maple Mount (1994-99) and part-time postmaster (2005-2016).

Survivors include her sister, Sister Rose Jean Powers, OSU, Maple Mount; sisters-in-law Nora Jean Powers, Hardinsburg, and Oneida Powers, Louisville; nieces and nephews and the members of her religious community.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Wednesday at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m.

Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, Owensboro, is in charge of arrangements.

So sorry to hear of Sister Marian's death. We did not hear of her passing until after her burial. We would have been there to help support all the Sisters and especially Sister Rose Jean.Our oldest son, Nick Ford, was killed in a hunting accident Thanksgiving Day (11/23/17) and we were preparing for his life celebration and sending him home. Please tell Sister Rose Jean we are praying and thinking of her. We will be coming day to visit all of you in the coming months. Charlotte Hesler and Rodney Ford
