Sister Charlesine Bowling, OSU

Sister Charlesine Bowling, OSUSister Charlesine Bowling, 96, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died April 3, 2008, at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 77th year of religious life.
A native of Athertonville in Larue County, she was an educator for 55 years. She grew up in a deeply Catholic home, where her parents often prayed, sang, and played instruments with their eight children. Three of Sister Charlesine’s sisters joined the Sisters of Loretto, and one of her brothers became a priest.
She was a teacher and principal at St. Paul High School, Leitchfield (1956-57), and a teacher at St. Romuald High School, Hardinsburg (1976-82). She also taught in Paducah. She served for over 40 years in the Archdiocese of Louisville as teacher, principal, and outreach minister, and as a teacher in Nebraska. As long as she was able she tried to bring joy and peace to those she visited.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, and the members of her religious community.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday April 7, at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Sunday at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Motherhouse cemetery.
