Born August 18, 1872, to Barney and Mary Susanna Lilly Logsdon of Sturgis, Ky., Marie was one of four children. At the age of 34, she entered the novitiate at Mount Saint Joseph and following a 13-month postulancy, received the Ursuline habit on August 25, 1908. Marie was given the name Sister Uriel.
Sister Uriel was assigned first to St. Bernard School in Clementsville, Ky., and then to Holy Cross School in Loretto, Ky., and to Holy Trinity School in Fredericktown, Ky., before being missioned to Nebraska where she taught in three different schools and towns during a period of seven years. She taught in grade schools for a time but most of her teaching was in the high schools. After returning to Kentucky, Sister Uriel taught at St. Catherine School in New Haven, St. Francis of Assisi School in St. Francis, and Mount Saint Joseph Academy. Her final mission was St. Peter School in Waverly, where she spent two years but became ill during the third year.
Failing health caused a return to Mount Saint Joseph but after awhile, Sister Uriel was teaching again in Mount Saint Joseph Academy where she remained for 14 years. In 1954 she retired from teaching but stayed at Mount Saint Joseph. Eventually ill health returned and she was confined to the infirmary. She and her sister, Sister Marie Paschal, were there at the same time. Sister Marie Paschal died on September 10, 1966, and Sister Uriel followed her in death 20 days later, September 30, 1966. The Requiem Mass for Sister Uriel was celebrated on October 3, by Msgr. Albert Thompson, MSJ chaplain, who was assisted by Msgr. Edward Russell. Sister Uriel was buried in the convent cemetery.
