The daughter of Philip and Emma Hausman Doll, Edith Mary was born December 1, 1912, in Louisville, Ky. Her secondary education was obtained at Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Louisville. At the age of 28, Edith entered the novitiate at Mount Saint Joseph. On August 14,1942, she received the Ursuline habit and the name Sister Mary Philip.

In 1945, Sister Mary Philip’s first assignment as primary teacher was to St Joseph School at Paul, Neb. Following that assignment, she was missioned to Kentucky schools: St Lawrence, Axtel, Mayfield, Stanley, Calhoun, Rome, Jeffersontown (in late fall of 1969, near the end of her eight-year assignment at St. Edward, she underwent cancer surgery), and Louisville (St. Columba). She spent 1971 off duty at Blessed Mother in Owensboro.

Sister Mary Philip came home to Mount Saint Joseph in 1972 suffering from advanced cancer. Death came to her on October 28, 1973. Msgr. Bernard Powers, chaplain, and Msgr. Edward Russell celebrated the funeral Mass on October 30. Sister’s remains are buried in the convent cemetery.
