Anna Lois was born Feb. 11, 1885, the daughter of Lucian and Juliana Cash Carrico of Fancy Farm, Ky. Her parents sent her to St. Jerome School under the direction of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth. In 1902, she came to Mount Saint Joseph Academy. She was an honor student during high school and graduated in 1906.
Following vacation time at home, she returned in August to enter the novitiate at Mount Saint Joseph. Her postulancy lasted only four days. On August 23, 1906, she received the Ursuline habit and the name Sister Mary Lucian. During the novitiate, she studied music and worked in the music department at Mount Saint Joseph Academy.
Following vows, Sister Lucian was missioned at Mount Saint Joseph Academy to teach choral classes and music. She was later missioned to teach music at St. Romuald School in Hardinsburg, Ky. Because of poor health, she returned to the Motherhouse. Sister remained in the Academy with a light teaching load until her death on January 4, 1914.
The Mass of Epiphany was sung for Sister Lucian’s funeral on January 6. Father P. J. McNeil delivered the funeral sermon. White vestments were used for the Mass. Black vestments were worn in the procession from the parlor to the chapel, and then again for the procession to the convent cemetery for the burial service.
