The daughter of Peter and Anna Williams Pritchett, Mary Charlotte was born Oct. 14, 1886, in Waverly, Ky. She received her elementary education with the Sisters of Charity at St. Vincent. One of a family of converts, Mary Charlotte was baptized at Sacred Heart Church in St. Vincent when she was 10 years of age. When she was 21, she entered the novitiate at Mount Saint Joseph. Following a five‑week postulancy, Mary Charlotte received the Ursuline habit and the name Sister Mary Felix on May 31, 1907.
Sister Felix was prepared for domestic service with her first mission being St. Angela Home in Louisville, where she served for two years. Other assignments took her to Jeffersonville, Ind., for two years and then she served as housekeeper for the teaching Sisters in several small Kentucky towns for five years. Sister Felix returned to Mount Saint Joseph where she labored until she was relieved of active duty due to ill health. During these earlier years at Mount Saint Joseph she worked in the primitive laundry of the pioneer days when there were no modern conveniences, and the work in the laundry meant rubbing on the washboard all day, together with firing for the clothes‑boiling and other very strenuous duties.
At first afflicted with a malignant form of rheumatism, Sister Felix was never able to get permanent relief and little temporary relief. All through her remaining years her sufferings were very great, and even the slightest movement of her body, arms, or even fingers, was a distinct torture. As long as her fingers were not too crippled, she sewed with the needle, which had to be threaded for her, and with the sewing machine. Her favorite charity was the support of the home and foreign missionaries. She made a pact with one of the Fathers of the Society of the Divine Word to offer all her sufferings for God’s blessings on his work. At some time toward the end of her life, Sister Felix was admitted to St. Joseph Infirmary in Louisville where she died on August 4, 1939. The Requiem High Mass for her was offered by Father Andrew Zoeller, MSJ chaplain, on August 7. Sister Felix was laid to rest in the convent cemetery.
