George Ann Taylor, the seventh of 11 children, was born to Diana Thompson Taylor and William Chester Taylor on October 19, 1932, at Fredericktown, Ky.
George Ann was baptized on October 27, 1932, at Holy Trinity Church, Fredericktown. She was confirmed on May 7, 1942, at Holy Trinity Church, by Archbishop John A. Floersh.
George Ann had 4 brothers: Francis Richard Taylor, William Chester Taylor Jr., Joseph Edward Taylor and Thomas Benedict Taylor. Her six sisters included: Mary Catherine Taylor Clements, Eleanor Elizabeth Taylor Rapier, Margaret Mary Taylor Boone, Martha Violet Taylor Smith, Mary Caroline Taylor and Judith Diana Taylor Thompson.
She attended both grade school and high school at Fredericktown. Soon after she graduated, she entered the Mount Saint Joseph Ursuline community. When she entered the novitiate, she received the name of Sister Mary Diane.
Soon after making temporary profession, she began her teaching career. Her first assignment was 2nd grade at Blessed Mother School, Owensboro, Ky., followed by assignments to St. Thomas More, Paducah, Ky; Seven Holy Founders, Afton, Mo.; St. Bernard School, Clementsville, Ky.; Catholic High School, Owensboro, Ky.; Mount Saint Joseph and Brescia College. She served 51 years as an art professor at Brescia, and in 2016, the Administration building at Brescia was renamed in her honor, Bartholomy-Taylor Hall.
In an article in the Western Kentucky Catholic, she commented about her years of teaching. She said, “Throughout my years of teaching, I have worked with so many wonderful people — students, faculty, staff, parents — and I am deeply grateful for the gifts of friendship formed through this ministry. I have been blessed by the people who have touched my life.”
Sister Mary Diane, 88, died Monday afternoon, June 28, 2021, in her 69th year of religious life. The Funeral Mass was on Friday, July 2, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel, with burial in the convent cemetery.
