Mary Margaret Fecher was born on October 13, 1923, to Constantine and Anna Marie Nordenbrock Fecher in Hamilton, Ohio. She was the second of five children. Her siblings included: Mark Patrick, Con John Jr., Marie Rose Julie, and Roger James.
Mary Margaret was baptized on October 28, 1923, at Saint Mary Church in Oxford, Ohio. Later, she was confirmed on October 15, 1933, at Holy Angels Church in Dayton, Ohio.
While at college, Mary Margaret’s mother became good friends with Sister Marguerite Younker, who once insisted that Mary Margaret attend Mount Saint Joseph Academy when she was old enough. Mary Margaret was 2 1/2 at the time. Her elementary school years were spent at Holy Angels School in Dayton. When she was ready for high school, her parents sent her to Mount Saint Joseph Academy and Mary Margaret came and loved it.
Mary Margaret had a dream to enter the convent at Mount Saint Joseph after graduation. Her parents wanted her to go to college elsewhere to see if this was really what she wanted to do. She attended Mount Saint Joseph College in Ohio for one year. Her heart remained with the Ursuline Sisters at Maple Mount, and she entered the novitiate in 1942.
Upon entering the novitiate, she received her new name of Sister Marie Julie. She made her temporary profession on August 15, 1944, and her perpetual profession was made on August 15, 1947.
Sister Marie Julie taught music for 32 years in Kentucky elementary schools at St. Edward, St. Bartholomew, and St. Columba, all in Louisville; at St. Catherine in New Haven, St. Francis in Marion County, and St. Joseph in Leitchfield. She then taught at Brescia College for 18 years. Afterward, she was the organist for the Ursuline community for 19 years.
Sister Marie Julie, 98, was called to her eternal home at 4 a.m. on September 22, 2022, at Mount Saint Joseph in her 80th year of religious life. The funeral Mass was on September 26, at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel, with burial in the convent cemetery.
