The daughter of Richard and Lucy Burnett Blincoe, Alice was born September 14, 1897, in Blincoe, Ky. Her parents were devout Catholics and trained their 12 children in love of God and Church. Alice attended the public schools of Marion County, but when the Ursuline Sisters began Holy Cross School at Loretto, she enrolled as an eighth grade student. Responding to the call to religious life, Alice entered the novitiate at Mount Saint Joseph. On October 24, 1916, she received the Ursuline habit and the name Sister Lucille.
Sister Lucille prepared for teaching and her first assignment was St. Michael School in Fairfield, Ky. Through the years, Sister taught in public and parochial, elementary and secondary schools. She taught elementary school from 1917-1939 at Stanley, Howardstown, St. Raphael and Peonia in Kentucky; in Blanco, New Mexico; Glennonville, Missouri and Bow Valley, Nebraska. She taught high school from 1939-1973 at Mount Saint Joseph, Nebraska City (St. Bernard Academy), Hardinsburg (St. Romuald), Fredericktown, New Haven (St. Catherine), Mayfield (St. Joseph), and New Mexico (Waterflow and Blanco). During her years at Waterflow, she was principal and superior along with being farm manager. She was loved and deeply respected for her breadth of knowledge, gentle manner, spirit of hopefulness and adaptability.
After 56 years of strenuous mission labors, Sister Lucille retired from teaching and returned to Mount Saint Joseph in 1973. She began a second career in crafts. Her specialties were making stuffed animals for the annual picnic and dressing dolls. She specialized in china dolls, collectables from the past. She was interested in life, in community, in world affairs. Her loving devotion to her family never waned.
Sister Lucille was confined to the infirmary for more than a year. Beginning in mid-May 1981, she needed round-the-clock nursing care. She died on May 30, 1981. The funeral Mass was celebrated by Msgr. Bernard Powers, Father Anthony Ziegler, and Father Bernard Barnes, OSM, chaplain, on June 1, 1981. Sister Lucille’s remains are buried in the convent cemetery. Preceding her in death was her Ursuline sister, Sister Richarda.
