Eunita was born Oct. 19, 1904, the daughter of Clarence and Lillian Butch Mackin in St. Joseph, Ky. She received her elementary education at the West Louisville Public School, then attended Mount Saint Joseph Academy during the years 1919-1922. At the age of 17, Eunita entered the novitiate at Mount Saint Joseph on March 19, 1923, and received the Ursuline habit and the name Sister Henrietta.
Prepared for the teaching apostolate, Sister Henrietta was assigned first to St Edward School in Jeffersontown, Ky., where she served one year as the primary teacher. Her next assignment took her to St Columba School in Louisville for a year and following that, to St. Anthony School in Jeffersonville, Ind., for a year. Returning from Indiana, Sister Henrietta was reassigned to St. Columba School where she remained for 40 years teaching the first-graders. Leaving there in 1967, she was assigned to St. Denis School in Louisville where she stayed seven years before retiring from the formal classroom.
Sister Henrietta returned to Mount Saint Joseph in 1974 for her final years. Quite ill for some time, Sister Henrietta died on December 6, 1981. Two days later on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, her funeral Mass was celebrated by Father Anthony Ziegler. Father Bernard Barnes, MSJ chaplain, was homilist. Sister Henrietta’s remains are buried in the convent cemetery.
