Born Oct. 23, 1896, at Chenault, Meade County, Ky., Alma was the daughter of James and Columba O’Bryan Jarboe. She attended school at Chenault, then went to Mount Saint Joseph Academy in 1907. After entering the novitiate and serving her time of postulancy, Alma received the Ursuline habit and the name Sister Geraldine on August 5, 1913.
Sister Geraldine was first missioned to Mount Saint Joseph where she taught music and then she was assigned to St. Anthony School in Jeffersonville, Ind., where she remained two years teaching music. She took music lessons through the year and studied music at Jeffersonville during the summer vacations.
In the summer of 1918, Sister Geraldine returned to Mount Saint Joseph for her annual retreat and renewal of vows. She became very ill with double pneumonia in mid‑July and for three weeks lingered near death’s door. Sister Geraldine was permitted to renew her vows on August 6, and drew her last breath on August 10, 1918. The Solemn High Requiem Mass was celebrated two days later by Fathers Louis Hilary Spalding, MSJ chaplain, William Hogarty, and James L. Whelan. Sister Geraldine was buried in the convent cemetery.
