Born at St. Mary, Ky., on Feb. 25, 1894, Ann Mariah was the daughter of John and Georgia Thompson Warren. As one of the older children, Ann Mariah assisted her mother with the care of the family. She was 27 years old when she entered the novitiate at Mount Saint Joseph. On March 20, 1922, after a six-month postulancy, Ann Mariah received the Ursuline habit and the name Sister George Ann.
Sister George Ann requested to be a housekeeper. Her first assignment was to the convent at St. Charles School in Bardwell, Ky., in 1922. The following year she was missioned to the Kentucky towns of Central City, then to Earlington, St. Columba in Louisville, Mount Saint Joseph, Howardstown, Shively, Rome, and again to the Mount. In 1932, she was missioned to Affton, Mo., for one year, followed by another year at Mount Saint Joseph. In 1934, Sister was sent to Raywick, her last mission assignment.
Due to her nine-year struggle with tuberculosis, Sister George Ann returned to the Mount in 1935. Until the disease had consumed all her strength, Sister George Ann was able to do beautiful needlework and make countless Sacred Heart badges. Death came to her on October 29, 1939, the Feast of Christ the King. Father Andrew Zoeller, chaplain, celebrated the funeral Mass on October 31. Sister George Ann’s remains are buried in the convent cemetery. Among her survivors was her Ursuline sister, Sister Bartholene Warren.
