Mary Estelle was born on Wednesday, April 25, 1934, in Louisville, Ky. She was the fourth child born to Richard Leo and Regina Eva Spalding Boone. Ten days later, on May 6, Estelle was baptized at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Louisville.
Later when Estelle was 4 years old, her father gave up his job with the DeSota Co., and the whole family returned to their true homeplace in Howardstown, Ky. It was at St. Ann Church in Howardstown that Estelle was confirmed on May 19, 1944.
In time the family grew to completion. The first four siblings – Francis Gerald (Jerry), Doris Therese, Margaret June, and Mary Estelle were joined by Patricia Ann, Robert Lawrence, Joseph Newman, and Richard Leo Jr. (Ricky).
Estelle attended St. Ann Grade School and St. Charles High School. She entered Mount Saint Joseph Ursuline community after completing three years of high school. Along with 17 other young women, Estelle began both her postulancy and her senior year of high school that Friday, September 7, 1951. A couple of semesters later, on a Tuesday in June 1952, Estelle earned her diploma.
On August 14, 1952, Mary Estelle was invested within the novitiate and became known as Sister Eva Marie Boone. Then two years later on August 15, 1954, Sister Eva Marie made her first vows; then just two weeks after that would be ready to begin her teaching ministry with the second grade at the new Immaculate School in Owensboro, Ky. She made her final vows on August 15, 1957.
After teaching at Immaculate School, Sister Eva Marie was principal and teacher at St. Elizabeth School in Curdsville, Ky. At Maple Mount she was receptionist at the Mount Saint Joseph Conference & Retreat Center, led the Quilt Club and served as Peace & Justice coordinator. Sister Eva Marie served as teacher, principal and pastoral minister in Kentucky, Nebraska, Missouri and Indiana.
Sister Eva Marie Boone, 90, died Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 73rd year of religious life. The funeral Mass was at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 23rd, in the Motherhouse Chapel. Burial was in the convent cemetery.
