Born in West Louisville, Ky., Faretta was the daughter of John and Ellen Cashion Blandford. She was a small child when her mother died. After her father remarried the family moved to Mayfield, Ky. She received her elementary schooling in Graves County Public Schools. She attended Mount Saint Joseph Academy during 1895‑1899. She entered the novitiate at Mount Saint Joseph and continued her studies. Faretta received the Ursuline habit on October 21, 1899, and became known as Sister Eulalia.
While at Mount Saint Joseph, Sister Eulalia was assigned to care for the flower gardens on campus. The beautiful ferns and flowers furnished decoration for the chapel and special celebrations. Sister began her apostolate of teaching at West Louisville. She was sent to open St. Peter Alcantara School at Stanley where she stayed 15 years. She next served as dean of Mount Saint Joseph Junior College for four years and impressed the patrons by her cultural mind, gentle manner, and kind, intelligent speech. Sister Eulalia taught at Jeffersonville, Ind., and in other Kentucky schools: Hardinsburg, Browns Valley, Axtel, and Central City.
Sister Eulalia retired to Mount Saint Joseph in 1943, due to the lingering effects of cancer. She was a source of inspiration – a gentle woman of prayer, showing a warm presence to each person. February 18, 1950, Sister Eulalia suffered a severe stroke. She died on March 4, 1950. Msgr. Gilbert Henninger, chaplain and a former pupil, offered the funeral Mass on March 6. Sister’s remains are buried in the convent cemetery.
In 2010, her great nephew, Father Ray Goetz, became chaplain at Mount Saint Joseph.
