Born Nov. 10, 1895, in Delaware, Ky., Eulalia was the third daughter of Elias and Mary Helen Cosby Barrow. She was recognized as an unusual child. Eulalia entered the novitiate at Mount Saint Joseph at the age of 15. On November 21, 1912, she received the Ursuline habit and the name Sister Edwina.
Sister Edwina began her teaching apostolate at St. Paul School in Louisville. She taught the primary grades there for five years. Her influence, persuasive power, and most of all, her prayerfulness, prompted many to call her the “Little Flower.”
Because of serious illness, Sister Edwina returned to Mount Saint Joseph, confined to the infirmary. She prayed and suffered patiently until her death on April 20, 1918. She had not made final vows, but was in her third renewal, made on December 30, 1917. Father James L. Whelan and Father Louis Hilary Spalding, who delivered the homily, concelebrated the funeral Mass. Sister Edwina’s remains are buried in the convent cemetery. Among her survivors was her Ursuline sister, Sister Margaret Mary.
