Nancy Ann Mudd was born on January 12, 1941, in Peonia, Ky., to Julian Dent Mudd Sr., and Gladys Evelyn Stith Mudd. She was baptized on August 21, 1943, at St. Anthony Church, Peonia, and was confirmed on October 22, 1950, by Bishop Francis R. Cotton.
Nancy Ann had nine brothers and sisters in her family. They were Julian Dent Mudd Jr., Ralph Duard Mudd, Mary Martha Mudd Hill, Sondra Lee Mudd Burnett, Elizabeth Ann Mudd, John Edward Ray Mudd, Joseph Leo Mudd, James Allen Ray Mudd, and Julia Beatrice Mudd.
She attended grade school at Peonia Public School. She was taught by Mount Saint Joseph Ursuline Sisters throughout her elementary and secondary schooling.
Nancy Ann entered the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph on September 7, 1959. There were seven other young women who entered with her. She received the habit on August 14, 1960, taking the name of Sister Anne Michelle. She made Temporary Profession on August 15, 1962, and later made Perpetual Profession on August 15, 1965.
Her first teaching assignment, in 1964, took her to St. Joseph School, Central City, Ky., where she taught grades one and two. Other places of ministry included Flaherty Public School, Flaherty, Ky., St. Peter of Antioch School, Waverly, Ky., Immaculate School, Owensboro, Ky., Lourdes Elementary School, Nebraska City, Neb., St. Paul School, Leitchfield, Ky., and Mary Carrico School, Knottsville, Ky. She was a primary teacher at these schools. She then returned to St. Paul School in Leitchfield, Ky., as principal and teacher. She was serving as religion teacher at St. Paul School at the time of her death.
Sister Anne Michelle, 79, died suddenly on August 11, 2020, in Leitchfield, in the 60th year of religious life. The funeral Mass was at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Catholic Church with a private burial at St. Augustine Cemetery, Grayson Springs, Ky.
