Eva Warren was born August 27, 1911, into the family of Gwynn Marvin and Eva Elizabeth Wathen Flaugher of Fairfield, Ky. She had four brothers: Gwynn Marvin, Edwin Drury, Charles. and Wilfred Wathen; three sisters: Alice Carpenter, Evelyn Mae and Mary Freda. The Flaugher family were members of St. Michael parish and attended the parish elementary school taught by the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph.
Anita remembers how she was influenced by her teachers, especially Sisters Mary Carmel and Sister Sylvester. During those formative years under their guidance she began to ask God to let her be an Ursuline. Feeling that God had heard her prayer, she was received as a postulant at Mount Saint Joseph in 1929. She received the habit and the name Sister Bernard Anita in August 1930. After completing the studies and formation program of the two-year novitiate, Sister began her mission life serving as housekeeper in the convent at St. Jerome, Fancy Farm, Ky. She eventually began teaching in the Diocese of Owensboro and the Archdiocese of Louisville, which she did for 44 years.
Sister Anita was a gentle, prayerful woman who enjoyed teaching young children. She was faithful to her friends and family, and enjoyed working in the rose garden. She died at Mount Saint Joseph on February 5, 2010, at age 98, in her 80th year of religious life.
