This morning at Mass, the homily struck me and caused me to step back and wonder how often I remain closed to new insights, new adventures and new discoveries. The statement that hit me was, ” Once our mind is made up, we are not interested in the facts!” I know I like to think that I am open minded and receptive to new things however, when it comes to certain areas this is not true. I hope in the future, I might recall this and pause when I am feeling my mind is made up to listen and consider the facts.
Today is the 51st anniversary of the convening of the Second Vatican Council. On this day in 1962, Pope John XXIII, now Blessed John, did gather the church to consider the facts. Hummmm… with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and looking at the fruits of this event, I am sure that those called to act on the charge of Pope John XXIII had their minds open and acted on the facts. Grant me an open mind this day!
