Mary Carrico Square Dancers

Square dancing students at Mary Carrico Memorial Catholic School in Knottsville, Ky., made their annual trip to Maple Mount on Feb. 1, 2018, to celebrate Catholic Schools Week.

Ursuline Sister Mary Celine Weidenbenner brings the 5th through 8th graders each year to show off their square dancing skills for the sisters in Saint Joseph Villa. The kindergarten through 4th grade students sang a few songs for the sisters, including the always popular “Hokey Pokey.”

Many years ago, Sister Mary Celine received a stack of 78 rpm square dancing records from the late Ursuline Sister Ruth Helen Flaherty, who died in 1989. Sister Ruth Helen urged Sister Mary Celine to make good use of the records, and she has been teaching her students square dancing ever since.
