How did people react when you told them you wanted to be a sister?

Tonya asks: How did people react when you told them you wanted to be a sister?

I remember this being a very big hurdle for me to pass. Saying aloud to my family and friends made my decision to become an Ursuline Sister more of a reality then just allowing the thoughts to go around and around in my mind. I waited several weeks wondering how they would react and if they would approve. I was very selective of the people who I confided in. I told my friends that I ran around with first. It was sort of a testing ground to see how they would react. Their reactions were very supportive. “That sounds just like you!” “Wow, really? Will we still be able to be friends?” Later I told my siblings and one sister was so excited she wanted to throw me a “nun shower” and that is exactly what she did. Telling my father was the most difficult, but once again I got a very positive supportive response. I will never forget what he said, ” Martha, keep praying and follow your heart!” If there were people that did not like my choice, they never expressed it to me. Of course, the Sisters at the Mount, the home of the Ursuline Sisters, were elated and welcomed me into their hearts and lives. It was a good choice for me and is a very fulfilling life.
