Group of Illinois Students Volunteers at Mount Saint Joseph

Twenty-nine students from Our Lady of Mount Carmel youth group in Herrin, Illinois, along with 10 group leaders, stayed at Mount Saint Joseph May 31 – June 3 to volunteer for various projects here and in Owensboro and Daviess County. On Friday, groups of volunteers helped at Centro Latino (led by Ursuline Sister Fran Wilhelm); Habitat for Humanity; H.L. Neblett Community Center; Blessed Sacrament Church, and at the Motherhouse. On Saturday, they went back to volunteer in those locations, as well as the Daviess County Animal Shelter.

At Mount Saint Joseph, the students washed several of the windows inside and out at Saint Joseph Villa.

Later, the group helped Sister Amelia Stenger move donated picnic items to the Mother Aloysius Room. On Saturday at Mount Saint Joseph, Sister Amelia planned to ask the students to help clean some votive candleholders and to prepare a mailing of 500+ letters for the development office.

Sister Martha Keller and Sister Pam Mueller helped plan the volunteer activities. Sister Martha accompanied some of the groups on their rounds of activities.
