Diocesean Jubilee Celebration

The Council of Religious for the Diocese of Owensboro honored the sisters celebrating jubilees of religious service in 2014 with a prayer service Oct. 25 at St. Martin’s Church in Daviess County.

As gifts for the jubilarians, the Council of Religious made donations to Heifer International, an organization that addresses world hunger by obtaining animals for impoverished families to supply both food and income. The class of 75 years, which was Ursuline Sister Clarentia Hutchins, received a gift of geese, said Ursuline Sister Vivian Bowles, president of the council. The class of 70 years, Ursuline Sister Marie Montgomery, received the gift of chicks. The class of 60 years – Ursuline Sisters Susan Mary Mudd and Mary Matthias Ward, and Sister of Charity Eula Johnson – received ducks. The class of 50 years — Ursuline Sisters Mary Timothy Bland, Lisa Marie Cecil, Diane Marie Payne, Laurita Spalding and Melissa Tipmore, and Passionist Sisters Mary Dolores Hornbeck and Mary Therese Seitz – received honey bees.
