Brescia Founders Day 2019

The annual Brescia University Founder’s Day on Jan. 29, 2019, honored two new recipients of the “Spirit of Angela” award and recognized the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph for their continued role at Brescia.

Founders Day is always held on the Tuesday nearest to Jan. 27, the feast of Saint Angela Merici, who founded the Ursuline Sisters in Brescia, Italy, in 1535. The Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph closed their former Mount Saint Joseph Junior College in 1949 and opened Brescia College in 1950 at its present location in downtown Owensboro. It became Brescia University in 1998.

Founders Day celebrates student leaders and recognizes the faculty and staff for all they do. Typically, Father Larry Hostetter, Brescia president, gives an address, but he was sick with the flu.
